I was commissioned by a doctor’s surgery in Herefordshire to design and paint a large mural in their entrance foyer. The space was approximately 4 metres wide and 2.5 metres high and had a door at the end I had to fit the design around. The brief was to make it simple and colourful and to show people who would use the doctors’ surgery (but who didn’t look too ill!).

Design

The design I came up with used a selection of people who would use the surgery – a woman with children, a man on crutches, a pregnant woman and an older couple. The style was a simple cartoon-style using block colours to make it eye-catching and cheerful. The original design was done in Illustrator and was then scaled up to be painted on the wall.

Result

The painting took a week and had to take place while the surgery was open, so I had to be careful not to take up too much space and block the entrance.
